A comparison of patient, intervention, comparison, outcome (PICO) to a new, alternative clinical question framework for search skills, search results, and self-efficacy: a randomized controlled trial.
Conclusion: When taught in an information literacy session, the new, alternative framework is as effective as PICO when assessing OT and PT students' searching skills. Librarian-led workshops using either question formulation framework led to an increase in information literacy self-efficacy post-instruction. PMID: 32256230 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Acupuncture for Post-stroke Shoulder-Hand Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Acupuncture therapy seems effective for motor function, pain relief and activities of daily living in stroke patients with mild SHS, when it is used in combination with rehabilitation. The low certainty of evidence downgrades our confidence in making recommendations to clinical practice. Introduction Shoulder-hand syndrome (SHS) is a common condition among people who have had a stroke, with its reported prevalence ranging from 12% to 49% (1, 2). The main symptoms of SHS include pain, hyperalgesia, joint swelling and limitations in range of motion (ROM) (3). Post-stroke SHS is also named type I complex ...

Prehabilitation Improves Knee Functioning before and within the First Year after Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: There was low- to very low-certainty evidence that prehabilitation promotes superior knee functioning before and up to 3 months after TKA, compared to TKA alone. The long-term postoperative effects were inconclusive.PMID:36125444 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2022.11160

Frailty as a Predictor of Nursing Home Placement Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Background and Purpose: Frailty has been recognized as a medical syndrome characterized by decreased physiological reserve and vulnerability to poor resolution of homeostasis. Frailty is common in nursing homes and as many as 90% of nursing home patients are frail or prefrail. Previous studies have examined frailty as a risk factor for nursing home placement and yielded inconsistent results. The current study aims to systematically review the literature and to conduct a meta-analysis to combine the risk measures to provide the evidence on frailty as a predictor of nursing home placement among community-dwelling older adu...

The Effects of Exercise Dosage on Neck-Related Pain and Disability: A Systematic Review With Meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: Exercise was beneficial for reducing pain and disability, regardless of exercise therapy dosage. Therefore, optimal exercise dosage recommendations remain unknown. We encourage clinicians to use exercise when managing mechanical neck pain. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2020;50(11):607-621. doi:10.2519/jospt.2020.9155. PMID: 33131392 [PubMed - in process]

Content Validity of Patient Reported Outcome Measurement Instruments for Patient Satisfaction in Primary Care: Systematic Review of Studies Involving Patients with Musculoskeletal Complaints.
CONCLUSION: In measuring patient satisfaction among patients with musculoskeletal complaints treated in primary care, none of the identified PROMs had adequate content validity. Future studies should address relevance, comprehensiveness, and comprehensibility of PROMs used to measure satisfaction, and emphasise patient involvement during the development of new instruments. Analysis of the numbers of clinical trials on physical therapy in Japan: comparison with those in the North American register from 2010 to 2019
Conclusion] The proportion of CTPT is relatively low in Japan, compared with that in North America, and it showed no increasing trend. It is important to provide education and support for clinical trials in an aging country such as Japan.PMID:34219957 | PMC:PMC8245263 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.33.521
